Babajimi Benson, the lawmaker representing Ikorodu federal constituency at the House of Representatives, has again fed over 300 people in Ikorodu, Lagos state.
This gesture by the camera-shy representative is seen by many as another form of stomach infrastructure made popular by Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti state, although he has always maintained that their programmes are two different things entirely.
Babajimi Benson and some members of his foundation during the distribution on Saturday, February 4 in Ikorodu area of Lagos state.
The lawmaker popularly referred to as JB by his friends and close associates in Ikorodu, continued from where he stopped in 2016 with his iCare foundation which embraces the helpless and vulnerable in the entire division.
The food bank which he named ‘Apo Aanu’ meaning bag of mercy contains all sorts of food items for the people who stormed his constituency office from all parts of Ikorodu to have a feel of the latest edition of the free food.
A disabled woman walking on crutches was at the venue of the collection on Saturday, February 4, for the collection.
According to the lawmaker, who was also working as a casual labourer to fix some parts of a school in his constituency, the idea behind the bag of mercy is to periodically have something to feed his constituents with.
Therefore, periodically, the people are made to come from different areas as selected by various constituted authorities in the division, and the technology employed with the distribution will ensure that nobody collects twice.
The people stormed JB's constituency office in Ikorodu, Lagos for their share of the mercy bag.
After the distribution which took place on Saturday, February 4, Jimi Benson said: “doing this on a regular basis – putting smiles on people’s faces – is something that brings me joy personally.
“Aside that, when we were campaigning, we promised to make the people happy and with my iCare foundation, we are trying all we can to make sure that we put smiles on the faces of people in Ikorodu division.
“This will not stop here, trust me, we are working really hard to make sure that the people get this mercy bag as often as we can give them out.”
The people queued and took turns to get their bags as the distribution continued.
Old men and women, disabled, sick and the vulnerable were present at the place of collection and they were full of appreciation to the lawmaker for the kind gesture.
“May God just continue to bless this man for us, he has always put smiles on the people’s faces, there’s nothing he asks from God that he will not do for him,” a man who was on crutches, said with teary eyes.
Another old woman who was present at the collection point, stated that, “although I have children who are grown up, I have not been able to feed properly since they all left me in this place. But with this mercy bag, there is hope for me to get to eat good food.”
