Police: Man charged in shooting death of Chicago toddler

CHICAGO (AP) — A man has been charged in a Chicago shooting captured on video that killed two people, including a toddler, and wounded a pregnant woman, police said Saturday.

"Lavontay wasn't someone who made some bad decisions and lost his way or got involved in a gang conflict," Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson said at a Saturday news conference.

According to the Illinois Department of Corrections, Collins was convicted of felony charges of burglary and armed robbery and was released on parole last June.

Johnson said people with information about the crime approached a Catholic priest, the Rev. Michael Pfleger, who accompanied them when they spoke to authorities.
