Jane the Virgin’ Showrunner Breaks Down Season 3 Finale ‘Happy Ending
First of all, Jane’s parents Rogelio (Jaime Camill) and Xo (Andrea Navedo) finally tied the knot.
“We ended with Jane and Michael’s wedding last year, so I knew that this year was going to end with a wedding, but it had to be so different from Jane and Michael’s, because that was the perfect wedding,” showrunner Jennie Urman told a group of reporters following a table read of the finale episode.
Only, Rafael has recently developed feelings for his ex-wife Petra (Yael Groblas), whose insecurities about Jane are also in full bloom, setting up our potential Season 4 love triangle.
“There’s a moment where Jane is feeling this for Rafael and you’re not quite sure what he’s feeling, but he made a big play for Petra in previous episodes and Petra was right; Jane did have feelings for him, so that’s I think something interesting that we’re going to play with,” Urman said.
[...] the three years [time jump] for me most importantly was about making them best friends, having that, now that they know each other.
[...] at a certain moment, if they do come back together, it’s with much more stakes and realism, not only in that sort of magical, romantic — in looking at fantasy and reality, it would be much more moved towards the reality than fantasy, which is where we started.
