Alert Bay being steered toward Longacres Mile
Trainer Blaine Wright, a Washington state native, and owner Peter Redekop of Vancouver, British Columbia, yearn to win the Longacres Mile — the Pacific Northwest’s premier race held at Emerald Downs.
The 6-year-old gelding has won 14 of 31 starts with seven seconds and has earned $1,220,555 — the most of any horse stabled at Golden Gate Fields.
After finishing second in all three starts as a 2-year-old in 2013, Alert Bay won 11 of 19 races in 2014-15, including two Grade 2 grass events at Santa Anita and two Grade 3 dirt races at Hastings Park in Redekop’s hometown.
Alert Bay will have eight opponents in Monday’s 1-mile race on the main track, including four trained by Jerry Hollendorfer:
Street Lad is the only confirmed front-runner in the All American, but he is making his stakes debut.
Ike Walker has won one of three starts at Santa Anita since Hollendorfer claimed him for $50,000 on Jan. 1.
