According to Islam, one night during the holy month of Ramadan, an angel came to the prophet during his meditation. The name of this angel was Jibril. He introduced the words of Allah to the prophet. What year was Ramadan first celebrated? It happened in the year 610 A.D. at Mount Hira.

At that time, Muhammed was forty years old. Jibril told Muhammed that he was chosen to be the prophet of his people! The angel asked him to recite the sacred words 'Allah is his only God'.

When the angel disappeared and Muhammed descended from the mountain – he headed to his wife. The prophet was worried about this angel. His wife and other relatives convinced him that Jibril was a servant of God!

The angel visited Muhammed for twenty-three years. Jibril mentored Muhammed about the sacred knowledge. Jibril taught this knowledge in verses. You can now find these verses in the holiest book for every Muslim –the Quran!
