Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa state has cautioned anti-democratic forces in the country to desist from truncating Nigeria’s democracy.

Governor Dickson gave the caution on yesterday, 28, in a Democracy Day statement issued by his chief press secretary, Daniel Iworiso- Markson, the Sun reports.

The governor, speaking on the back drop of the alarm raised by the chief of army staff, Lt Gen Tukur Buratai over politicians making overtures to the military, called on those allegedly planning to overthrow the government to have a rethink, because democracy in Nigeria had come to stay.

Governor Dickson said democracy in Nigeria had come to stay.

Dickson insisted that democracy remained the best system of government, noting that it is no longer fashionable to have a non-democratic society.

The governor expressed the optimism that despite the various anti-democratic forces, ‎the nation’s democracy would continue to grow.

He said Nigeria’s democracy will one day become a reference point for many countries.

Meanwhile, Senate president Abubakar Bukola Saraki has begged Nigerians to help more with the economy in order to sustain the nation’s democracy.

Saraki said this in a statement by his special adviser on media and publicity Yusuph Olaniyonu in Abuja to commemorate the 2017 Democracy Day celebration.

According to him, the real challenge to the sustenance of the democracy was the need for a solid economy which will ensure that Nigerians enjoy high standard of living.

Saraki urged Nigerian to rally behind government policies to develop the economy and create a vibrant private sector by shunning activities that threaten the stability of the country.
