After loss, Giants face decisions on rotation
There has been talk around AT&T Park that the Giants could put Lincecum in the bullpen and place Hudson on the disabled list to let him rest an ankle that has required two surgeries since 2013 and needs daily upkeep.
Hudson addressed the elephant in the room after he allowed five runs in 62/3 innings against the Rockies, who had to withstand a big Giants rally in the ninth, including a Matt Duffy liner that probably would have tied the game had it not been foul by an inch or two.
The Giants still need to assess Peavy’s situation after he allowed six runs, five in the first inning, at Las Vegas in what was to be his final rehab start for Triple-A Sacramento.
The Giants recalled Mike Broadway from Triple-A Sacramento, which leaves Javier Lopez as the only lefty in the bullpen.
Manager Bruce Bochy played the Lopez card in the right spot, with two on and two outs in a 3-3 game in the seventh, and Carlos Gonzalez at the plate.
Lopez had allowed three hits all season to left-handed hitters before the Rockies got him for two big ones.
Colorado’s seventh win in 10 games against the Giants this season appeared to be in the bag when the Rockies took an 8-3 lead into the bottom of the ninth.
[...] after a team doctor reviewed the test results, Bochy termed Pagan’s injury a “day-to-day thing,” with a possible return by Sunday.
