Draymond Green agrees to 5-year, $82 million deal from Warriors
With a five-year, $82 million deal completed in principle with top offseason priority Draymond Green, the Warriors were able to turn their attention to courting top-notch shooters Wednesday.
The Warriors’ initial meeting in Los Angeles with Green and his agent, B.J. Armstrong, didn’t yield a deal, but the prized power forward later announced on Twitter that “I’m going back to the Bay!!!”
Based on updated salary-cap projections, Green could have received a five-year deal worth more than $93 million with the Warriors, but only a four-year deal worth more than $69 million from another team.
DeMarre Carroll, who plays with infectious energy and stretches the floor with his shooting, as Green does, agreed to a four-year, $60 million deal with Toronto.
The Warriors had planned to match an offer sheet of any length and any price for Green.
Ellington (27, 6-4) played last season while dealing with the murder of his father and shot 37 percent from three-point range for the Lakers.
NBA sources see the Lakers emerging as a possible destination, if they strike out on their pitches to LaMarcus Aldridge, DeAndre Jordan and Greg Monroe.
The Warriors’ two unrestricted free agents haven’t seen much action, but Leandro Barbosa would be a logical fit in New Orleans, where Alvin Gentry just accepted the head-coaching gig, and Justin Holiday could fit in the room exception with Atlanta.
