Mirzoyan: international community must pressure Azerbaijan to withdraw its troops from sovereign territories of Armenia
YEREVAN, September 21, /ARKA/. On September 20, within the framework of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly, Foreign Minister of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan had separate meetings with Federal Minister for European and International Affairs of Austria Alexander Schallenberg and Foreign Minister of Serbia Nikola Selaković.
Minister Mirzoyan briefed his colleagues on the details and consequences of the aggression unleashed by Azerbaijan against the territorial integrity of the Republic of Armenia.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia emphasized that the international community should put pressure on Azerbaijan in order to prevent possible new military aggressions and maintain the ceasefire regime, as well as withdraw the Azerbaijani troops from the sovereign territories of the Republic of Armenia and return the Armenian prisoners of war.
The interlocutors discussed the possibilities of enriching the bilateral agenda and exchanged views on deepening the political dialogue and developing trade and economic ties.
During the meeting, the sides also touched upon the normalization process of relations between Armenia and Turkey.
Ararat Mirzoyan participated also and delivered remarks at the "Democracy delivers" event organized by the US Agency for International Development (USAID), attended by a number of heads of states and high-level officials, the US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, heads of private corporations and foundations.
In his remarks, Ararat Mirzoyan noted that in recent years, the Armenian people have voted for democracy twice through free and fair elections.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia noted that democratic reforms are being largely implemented in Armenia, the rule of law is ensured, human rights and fundamental freedoms are protected and the unyielding fight against corruption is one of the government's priorities. In this context, Minister Mirzoyan emphasized that Armenia is continuously improving its positions in reputable international rankings for indicators such as democracy, economic freedom, fight against corruption, thus becoming more attractive to the world.
The Foreign Minister of Armenia noted that democratic values and principles cannot be compromised for Armenia and urged the international community to support Armenian democracy, including through condemnation and prevention of the aggression against Armenia. -0-
