Innovation of the week: Smart running shorts

A pair of motion-tracking athletic shorts acts as a "personal running coach for your posterior," said Stephanie Mlot at PC Mag​. Lumo Run's built-in sensors measure running rhythm, stride length, ground-contact time, and pelvic rotation to provide runners with "lab-level feedback" on their form and performance.

The shorts, developed in collaboration with biomechanics experts at England's Loughborough University, also sync with a smartphone app that gives runners tips on improving their form while they're on the move, so they can increase their speed and distance, as well as avoid injuries. The high-tech drawers are made by Palo Alto, California–based startup Lumo Bodytech, also the makers of a posture-correcting sensor called Lumo Lift that's worn as a lapel pin or bra clasp. Lumo Run will retail for $149 for men's shorts and $169 for women's capris, with shipping beginning in March.
