The Plaza restaurant complex was “the destination.” The finest weddings were held there. It was one that everyone frequented, not only to enjoy its comfort food and global cuisine, but to hang out and see familiar faces. While rummaging through her photo archives, owner and good friend Millie Reyes discovered a wedding photo clipping of Rupert and I, back when we had our wedding reception at the ballroom of The Plaza. And what stroke of luck because we no longer have a copy of it. This year marks The Plaza’s 50th year. Started in 1965 by legendary husband-and-wife team Joe and Imelda Reyes, the restaurant had a vision of creating a modern Filipino cuisine. They didn’t consider the restaurant as work. To them, it was passion and service. As the years went by, the whole family collaborated and, as they say, the rest is history.
