Early voting begins Monday, and we urge you to vote. The ordinance prohibits discrimination in city employment and city services, city contracts, public accommodations, private employment, and housing, based on an individual's sex, race, color, ethnicity, national origin, age, familial status, marital status, military status, religion, disability, sexual orientation, genetic information, gender identity or pregnancy. - The charter amendment reduces the number of terms of elective offices to no more than two terms in the same office and limits the length for all terms of elective office to four years, beginning in January. - Houston Community College System San Jacinto Community College The proposition calls for the issuance of $425 million in bonds for the construction, renovation, acquisition and equipment of school buildings in the district. - Houston Independent School District Constitutional Amendments The amendment would boost homestead exemption amounts for school district property taxes from $15,000 to $25,000. [...] it would keep the state from charging a transfer tax on the sale of the property. - In an effort to address the state's huge transportation needs, this amendment would require the Texas comptroller each year to dedicate the first $2.5 billion of vehicle sales use and rental taxes to the General Revenue Funds, dedicate the next $2.5 billion to the State Highway Fund and split between the two funds all revenue above that. Commissioners want $700 million for road improvements.
