S.I. Linets. The Battle of the Caucasus in 1942-1943: New Interpretations of Its Features, Significance, and Role in the History of the Great Patriotic War.
The article is devoted to one of the longest battles in the history of the Great Patriotic War, the Battle of the Caucasus, which lasted 442 days and nights in 1942-1943. The article presents the established approaches to studying this important scientific problem in Russian historiography. It is noted that the Battle of the Caucasus has received less attention than other battles of the Great Patriotic War. New interpretations and methodological innovations have been proposed, allowing us to appreciate its features, role, and significance in defeating Hitler’s Germany and achieving our victory.

G.N. Kameneva. Military and sports training of female youth in the 1930s — first half of the 1940s and their physical readiness to perform combat missions (based on materials from the history of the Battle for the Caucasus).
The article discusses the issues of state policy on promoting a sports lifestyle among young people in the pre-war and wartime years, the involvement of women in various movements for the development of physical culture and the acquisition of professions of defense significance. The analysis of women’s participation in the Battle for the Caucasus is presented, vivid examples of their physical readiness and skill in performing combat tasks, courage and heroism are given.

The article is devoted to the study of the substantive and methodological features of the educational material used in teaching the topic «The Battle for the Caucasus». The authors present the Stavropol Territory’s experience in preparing and conducting classes dedicated to the study of the Battle for the Caucasus and dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory over Nazism.

S.D. Batishchev. Thomas Mann’s radio addresses (1940-1945) to the german nation: using the source in high school history classes.
The article proposes to use T. Mann’s radio messages recently published for the first time in Russian as a source for the formation of reading literacy skills in history lessons in high school. There are several examples of possible tasks for these sources.

E.E. Vyazemsky. Historical politics, historical memory, historical education: problems of interaction.
The presented scientific report examines the problems of the interaction of historical politics, historical memory and historical education. The author shows that the interference of state institutions in the interpretation of history has become a widespread international practice. And this factor has an impact on the field of historical education. The author argues that historical memory is the most important factor in the formation of civic identity. Therefore, the issues of updating historical memory are a priority for the field of historical education.

The article is devoted to the issue of expanding students’ views on the causes of international conflicts in the history course of senior classes. The authors propose introducing senior students to Samuel Huntington’s civilizational concept.

I.R. Grishantsova, E.A. Shishkina, A.A. Tsybulina. Karl Friedrich Wilhelm Kossmann is a pastor, a law teacher, a man, or a forgotten face in the history of the school.
The documentary biographical material of the vice-president of the Lutheran Moscow Consistory, K.K. Kossmann, has been collected and illustrated, as well as his contribution to the creation of the Alexander-Mariinsky Real School in Saratov. Previously unpublished information about the origin and the first years of the educational institution’s existence is presented.

R.V. Pazin, I.V. Krutova. Modern school lessons of history and social science in the context of sovereignty of the Russian education system: traditions and innovations in teaching methods.
The article analyzes the application of pedagogical models of teaching in the Federal State Educational Standard and proposes to build types of educational and upbringing activities in accordance with the planned educational results. It is noted that the «conservative turn» in education in the 21st century occurred not only in Russia, but also in other developed countries of the world. The authors propose to design modern history and social studies lessons using an evidence-based approach, including when choosing teaching methods and techniques.

M.D. Osadchiy. Competency-oriented tasks for the education of an information-competent personality: experience of development and implementation in school courses of history and social science.
The author of the article specifies the competence-based and personality-oriented approaches to studying social and humanitarian subjects using the example of competence-oriented tasks (COT) aimed at developing the information competence of the individual (ICI). The basic concept and structure of ICI are specified in correlation with the «portraits» of a high school graduate and the digital generation; the theoretical and methodological foundations for the development and use of COT for the diagnosis and development of ICI for high school students in history and social science courses are substantiated by references to the ideas of modern philosophers, psychologists and pedagogues, as well as the results of his own educational activities.

S.A. Karkashova. Explaining the former enemy: the «two Germanies theory» and Franco-German reconciliation after World War I.
The article addresses the issue of how France perceived its former enemy, Germany, after the end of World War I. It examines how in the second half of the 1920s, during Franco-German reconciliation policy, a dual image of Germany was constructed in France. On the one hand, this image consisted of negative national stereotypes about Germans, perceived as hostile to France and inherently aggressive; on the other hand, it included positive perceptions of German culture and hopes for the strengthening of democratic forces within Germany. The author demonstrates how the image of the divided Weimar Republic was used by French supporters of reconciliation policy to explain the origins of obstacles this policy faced on the German side.
