Armenian government amends law `On Military Service`, revises list of  illnesses that prevent military service

0

ArmInfo.  On December 25, at its regular meeting, the Armenian government approved the draft law "On Amendments and Supplements to the Law "On Military Service and the Status of Servicemen," and also amended the April 2018 Cabinet  resolution, shortening the list of illnesses and pathologies for  which conscripts are exempted from military service.

Thus, through amendments to the current legislation, the Ministry of  Defense proposes: - to consider military personnel serving under the  "Defender of the Fatherland" program as having confirmation of their  eligibility based on the exams passed at the end of the training  period, provided that the serviceman is appointed to a military  position corresponding to the military specialty they received;

- to consider military personnel who have graduated from military  educational institutions of the Republic of Armenia and appointed to  the appropriate officer position as having confirmation of their  eligibility based on the final exams of the military educational  institution. In the latter two cases, the additional payment will be  calculated from the date of appointment.

- For military personnel who have signed a regular contract for 2 or  5 years after the expiration of their initial five-year contract  under the "Defender of the Fatherland" program, additional payments  will be calculated from the date of appointment. The "Fatherland"  program also provides for the option of receiving a salary after the  contract expires (1.5 million drams for a 2-year contract, and 5  million drams for a 5-year contract).

- Review the mandatory qualification verification requirements for  military personnel working under contract.

According to the second draft resolution, the list includes those  diseases and pathological conditions (in particular, venous angiomas  of the brain and spinal cord) that were not included previously, as  well as those diseases and pathological conditions that do not have  clinical manifestations, do not lead to functional impairment or do  not require treatment, in the case of which an appropriate conclusion  on suitability will be made during the examination (in particular,  favorable cases of hypothyroidism, favorable diseases caused by  hereditary factors of the blood system (alpha-, beta-heterozygous  thalassemia), minor anomalies that practically represent a variety of  heart development, cases of refusal of surgical treatment for  inguinal and other hernias, hemangiomas or other benign formations or  vertebral cysts), as a result of which the number of deferments  granted to citizens for treatment will be reduced, and cases of  unnecessary waste of public funds will be excluded.
