Opposition leader warns of " external interference" in Armenia`s  upcoming parliamentary elections

ArmInfo. There is a real threat of external interference in the 2026 parliamentary elections in Armenia, given the actions and rhetoric of the current government. Ishkhan Saghatelyan, a representative of the ARF Dashnaktsutyun Supreme Body and a member of parliament from the opposition Armenia faction, made this statement when speaking to reporters.

In this regard, he reiterated that the Armenian people are the sole  subjects of power formation in Armenia, and any interference in these  processes is unacceptable. "Whether it is interference from Turkey  and Azerbaijan, the West or Russia-it is all unacceptable. It's  crucial for us that the opposition clearly defines its position on  this issue. If we are not talking about a transparent election, but  rather an attempt to restrict certain political forces from  participating, then we are looking at the most disgraceful scenario  possible," Saghatelyan stated.

He noted that several possible scenarios for such external  interference are currently being discussed. "If the Armenian  authorities decide to take this path, the opposition will be forced  to take appropriate measures," the MP noted.

Recall, on December 15, 2025, the EU High Representative for Foreign  Affairs and Security Policy, Vice- President of the European  Commission, Kaja Kallas, in a conversation with journalists, stated  that "Armenia has asked the European Union for financial assistance  in "preventing external interference in the run-up to the next  parliamentary elections," scheduled for June 2026. Kallas also stated  that ahead of the elections, Russia had  intensified its  disinformation campaign, and that Armenia will be provided 15 million  euros by the EU to counter external threats.
