Armenian NA speaker evades question about debate on report on 44-day  war 

ArmInfo. RA National Assembly Speaker Alen Simonyan avoided a direct answer to a question from opposition Armenia faction MP Gegham Manukyan about whether the report of the temporary investigative commission examining the circumstances of the 44-day war in Nagorno-Karabakh would be discussed during the current parliamentary session.

The speaker noted that the report contains a number of classified provisions that are not subject to public disclosure. He urged MPs with the right to review classified documents, especially those from the opposition camp, to read the report, which is currently in the first section of the National Assembly.  Simonyan noted that only one or two members of parliament from the opposition factions have read the report.

In response, Manukyan again raised the question of whether the report would be discussed at a plenary session, especially since this is required by law. "Whether it's a closed or open format isn't the point. What matters is whether the document will be considered or not," the opposition figure stated.

However, the speaker once again avoided answering the question.

It was previously reported that the speaker refused to include the report on the National Assembly agenda, suggesting that the authorities are deliberately taking this step to prevent negative consequences from the discussions in light of the ongoing normalization process between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
