Court extends detention for suspects in Parakar community head murder 

ArmInfo.During the  hearing on January 23, 2026, the court extended the detention of Narek Ohanyan and Gevorg Harutyunyan,  accused of murdering the head of the Parakar community, Volodya Grigoryan, for an additional three months. 

Recall, on September 23, 2025, the Ministry of Internal Affairs police received a report of shots fired on the Yerevan Highway in  Merdzavan village, Armavir region. As a result of the incident, Volodya Grigoryan, an opposition leader of the enlarged Parakar community, and Karen Abrahamyan, a criminal police officer at the Ararat Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, were killed.

Later, in a conversation with journalists, Deputy Chief of Police Vardan Vardanyan emphasized that the murder of the head of the Parakar community was not politically motivated. The incident, he said, is linked to a previous shooting that occurred near Akhtoyan's house seven months ago. Back then, as a result of an armed attack on the house of Mher Akhtoyan, head of the Merdzavan village administration in the Parakar community of Armenia's Armavir region, Akhtoyan's cousin, Grigor Ohanyan, was killed and another person was injured. Volodya Grigoryan's brother, Paykar Grigoryan, was arrested as a suspect.
