U.S. Marshals Apprehend Fugitive Boxer Gervonta Davis In Miami
Gervonta “Tank” Davis was taken into custody in Miami on January 28, 2026, following a weeks-long search by law enforcement and the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force. The charges stem from an October 27, 2025, altercation at a Miami Gardens gentlemen’s club where an ex-girlfriend alleged he grabbed her by the hair and throat and forcefully dragged her to a parking garage. An arrest warrant was officially issued on January 14, 2026. Davis remained a fugitive for roughly two weeks, reportedly evading process servers multiple times before being caught. Miami Gardens Police stated that surveillance footage from the club corroborated key elements of the victim’s statement.
Leading up to the arrest, reports indicated that Davis had agreed to surrender but failed to appear, which prompted the federal task force to actively hunt him.
Due to the active warrant and his fugitive status, the WBA designated Davis as “Champion in Recess” in January 2026, effectively stripping him of his active lightweight title to allow the division to proceed. The legal situation and accompanying civil lawsuit led to the cancellation of a high-profile exhibition match against Jake Paul, originally set for November 2025. If convicted on all current Florida charges (Battery, False Imprisonment & Attempted Kidnapping), Davis could face a maximum of up to 21 years in state prison.
