Expert: US will attempt to involve Armenia in actions against Iran
ArmInfo. The Donald Trump administration will attempt to involve Armenia in actions against Iran in one form or another. Georgy Asatryan, Deputy Director of the Institute of World Military Economy and Strategy at the National Research University Higher School of Economics and Associate Professor at the Plekhanov Russian University of Economics, made this statement during a Yerevan-Moscow videoconference on "US Strategy in and around the South Caucasus.
" He was speaking about the US President's proposal to impose a 25% tariff on goods from countries trading with Iran.
The expert noted that the recent 12-day Iran-Israel war essentially demonstrated the inadequacy of the measures taken by the Israeli-US coalition against Tehran. According to him, this creates the preconditions for attracting new players who could be used against the Islamic Republic of Iran.
"In my opinion, a military clash with Iran is inevitable, although it's unclear whether it will take a hybrid or military format. US President Donald Trump still has three years in the White House, and he needs new platforms and forces to encircle Iran. There's little information regarding Armenia's territory. However, I believe they will try to involve Armenia in these actions, which could be dangerous for the country itself," Asatryan emphasized.
According to the expert, the reconnaissance drones supplied to Armenia at an inflated price, could be used for these purposes. He added that these drones could have dual uses and could potentially be used against Iran.
Recall, US Vice President J.D. Vance, in a press statement following talks with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in Yerevan, announced that the US would sell V-BAT unmanned aerial vehicle technology to Armenia for $11 million.
