Initiative of five human rights defenders strongly condemn statement by Supreme Judicial Council
ArmInfo. The Initiative of Five Human Rights Defenders strongly condemned the statement of the Supreme Judicial Council.
"We strongly condemn the statement published on the Facebook page of the Supreme Judicial Council, considering it a blatant attempt to silence critical statements by lawyers and human rights defenders and to exert pressure on their professional activities. This statement by the Supreme Judicial Council exceeds all acceptable limits of institutional relations with the human rights community. This behavior is also dangerous in terms of creating an artificial barrier between the human rights community and the judicial system," the initiative's statement reads.
As a reminder, the Supreme Judicial Council has previously issued a statement citing several social media posts by lawyers against judges. "We note with concern a number of posts published on social media by lawyers targeting judges, which not only violate professional ethics but also seek to discredit the authority of judges and the entire judicial system. The Supreme Judicial Council, within its constitutional authority, guarantees the independence of judges and protects the reputation of the judiciary. It is extremely disturbing when some representatives of another important institution involved in the administration of justice-the legal profession-present their own decisions to the public as the absolute truth on public platforms," the SJC statement read.
