Rode will add some European flavour to CT City
Cape Town City announced yet another high-profile addition to its squad when Latvian central defender Renars Rode was signed.

On Wednesday the Mother City’s new PSL club announced yet another high-profile addition to its squad when Latvian central defender Renars Rode was signed on a one-year deal, with a one-year option to renew.
The capture of the 27-year-old came just two days after City had raided Orlando Pirates for the signature of highly-rated defender Tshepo Gumede.
In addition, the Cape side have also signed, in the last two weeks, Austrian Roland Putsche, Australian Matt Sim and four promising Cape youngsters in Ebrahim Seedat, Never Ngcuka, Shaquille Abrahams and Duncan Adonis.Rode (pictured) has played for two big clubs in Latvia – FK Ventspils and Skonto FC – and, last season, turned out for Czech Republic side, SK Sigma Olomouc.
Club boss John Comitis is excited about recent developments, especially considering that he has managed, in such a short space of time, to beef up the squad.
According to Comitis, the pieces of the puzzle are coming together as they continue preparations for their debut season in the PSL.“I believe this proves Cape Town City are sending out strong signals that we are here and we mean business,” said Comitis.
“Signing a Latvian international is another way we are balancing out the team with different styles of football. We have the home-grown, local Diski players from Black Aces, we’ve added some youth from Cape Town, and now we are mixing it with the Europeans’ experience.
”Head coach Eric Tinkler, along with Comitis, have been working hard behind the scenes to strengthen the squad. It’s all coming together – and Comitis said there were just two more signings in the pipeline.
After that, with the squad concluded, it would be up to the coaches and the players to ensure the team does the business on the field in the PSL.
