No return to historical Armenia idea! Pashinyan calls on
ArmInfo. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan calls for recording the strategic impossibility of
returning to the idea of 'historical Armenia'. He stated on April 11 at the final speech during a discussion of the implementation of the government program for 2023.
Yesterday, in parliament, Pashinyan said that "historical" and "real"
Armenia are antagonists and create the most serious threats to each
other. According to him, "historical" Armenia, willingly or
unwillingly, echoes a number of countries that encroach on the
sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of real Armenia.
In addition, the prime minister pointed out, historical Armenia not
only guarantees eternal enmity with a number of countries, but also
gives them a reason and grounds for an aggressive policy towards
Armenia. It also forces the "real" Armenia to be dependent on the
"senior partner" and deprived of real independence, he noted. "Our
vision of 'historical Armenia' will always lead us into the trap of
genocide, in which we will need a savior and patron, without whom we
cannot exist. The fear of genocide will keep us in the status of an
outpost. And an outpost does not need territorial integrity, borders,
or sovereignty. He only needs a patron," Pashinyan said.
"We come from Cilicia, the Armenian Highlands, the Kingdom of Van.
The problem is this. The discussion is as follows: should we look at
the world from the heights of the Kingdom of Van or from the heights
of the Republic of Armenia? This is our conceptual discussion,"
Pashinyan said today.
According to the prime minister, one important question needs to be
answered. "Do we recognize that a few meters or kilometers from Khor
Virap, inextricably linked with our Christian roots, is Turkiye? I
say that the government of the Republic of Armenia and the political
majority recognize that Turkiye is located a few meters from Khor
Virap and for the government of Armenia, recognizing this is the most
important means of security. And this is precisely the strategic
choice.
When we say that there is no Turkiye a few meters from Khor Virap, we
choose 'historical' Armenia. When we say that Turkiye is a few
meters from Khor Virap, we are choosing the 'real' Armenia. The same
approach is used in the case of Voskepar: We must fix the strategic
impossibility of returning to the idea of 'historical' Armenia. This
is precisely what the dispute is about," he said, noting that now
there is a choice between 'historical' and real 'Armenia'," Pashinyan
noted, adding that it is necessary to state the strategic
impossibility of returning to the logic of historical Armenia.
