Aston Villa winners and losers from FPL Gameweek 6: Emi Buendía from Argentina leads the charge

0

Just 0.1% of Fantasy Premier League players selected Aston Villa’s top scorer from Gameweek 6 and at £5.3m he was a bargain.

Villa had the luxury of bringing Emi Buendía off the bench and reaped the benefits. Ten minutes after coming on against Fulham at Villa Park on Sunday, Buendía had scored one goal and claimed an assist for another.

Unai Emery bagged three points for the first time in the Premier League this season and a mere handful of FPL managers collected 12 points courtesy of Argentina’s real number 10.

How Aston Villa players fared in GW6

Buendía topped the Villa list for GW6 ahead of Ollie Watkins, who scored Villa’s first against the Cottagers to break his personal duck and banked 9.8% of FPL players a handy enough eight points.

John McGinn‘s goal earned him six points while Lucas Digne and Morgan Rogers picked up five apiece. It doesn’t sound much, but in truth this is the first week all season that Villa as a team haven’t blanked.

Matty Cash leads Villa for total points this season and crept up to 27 as a result of Sunday’s efforts. Only two other players – Digne and Tyrone Mings, who went off injured after half an hour against Fulham – have 20 points or more.

Now we’re far enough into the season to consider a Premier League form table, it’s time for our first look at how many FPL players have our Villa boys in their teams.

The top five most selected Villa players for GW6?

Ezri Konsa (11.2%), Ollie Watkins (9.8%), Morgan Rogers (5.8%), Matty Cash (5.4%) and Àlex Moreno (3.3%).

Just in case you haven’t been paying attention, Moreno doesn’t play for Villa anymore. But he does cost £4.0m in FPL, which explains his popularity but doesn’t feel entirely within the spirit of the game, no matter which way up you play it.

AVF FPL update GW6

The good news is that I’m up to 64th, having jumped six places this week to overtake people down at the bottom who presumably aren’t playing anymore.

79,482nd best Villa fan at FPL this season – you’ll never sing that.

Commiserations are due to James Brownrigg, who drops into last place thanks to Spencer Bakewell claiming 22 points from two Arsenal players and climbing to 75th.

At the other end of the table the gap has closed slightly behind runaway leader Gary James.

Hitesh Patel‘s 73-point haul paved the way to second place while there were also positive moves in or into the top five for Wayne Barnard and Matt Ross.

Down in 39th, you’ll find Matthew Roberts, who top-scored in GW6 with 102 points. I wasn’t able to triple captain Erling Haaland because I had to play my wildcard to get him in. Matthew’s spectacular result is why.
