Quakes slip past Galaxy thanks to own goal

The San Jose Earthquakes accomplished two important things Friday night against the Los Angeles Galaxy in Carson, Calif.

They won a key Major League Soccer match 2-1 against the third-place team in the Western Conference, and they avoided a draw.
