Ashleigh Barty saves set point in 1st-round win at U.S. Open
Top-seeded Ashleigh Barty staved off a set point Tuesday to win her first-round match at the U.S. Open in New York.
Russia's Vera Zvonareva, a 2010 U.S. Open finalist, pushed the 25-year-old Australian before falling 6-1, 7-6 (7).
Zvonareva saved a match point at 6-5 in the second-set tiebreaker, then had a set point at 7-6. Barty came up with a forehand winner, then captured the next two points to wrap up the match.
