Giants release veteran LB Blake Martinez

The New York Giants surprisingly released linebacker Blake Martinez on Thursday.

Published reports indicate there was unrest between Martinez and the coaching staff, primarily new defensive coordinator Wink Martindale.

Martinez, 28, was excused from Wednesday's practice due to what the team termed as personal reasons. He was back with the squad Thursday prior to the move.
