Sporting KC locks up Peter Vermes through 2028 season

Sporting Kansas City coach and sporting director Peter Vermes signed a five-year contract extension through the 2028 season, the team announced Wednesday.

Vermes is beginning his 15th season as coach and has guided Sporting KC to 10 playoff appearances, including winning the 2013 MLS Cup. He ranks fourth in MLS history with 183 regular-season victories.

Vermes, 56, also has coached the franchise to U.S. Open Cup crowns
