Jets part ways with franchise icon Blake Wheeler

The Winnipeg Jets said farewell to franchise icon Blake Wheeler on Friday after parts of 13 seasons together.

The team placed the 36-year-old forward on unconditional waivers for the purpose of buying out the final year of his contract.

Wheeler was the Winnipeg captain for seven seasons and is the franchise's all-time leader in points (812), assists (550) and games played (897).
