Mancini resigns as Italy head coach

ROME, Aug. 13 (Xinhua) -- Roberto Mancini has resigned as head coach of Italy, the country's football governing body FIGC announced on Sunday.

Mancini took over the national side in 2018 and guided the Azzurri to the Euro 2020 championship. However, his side failed to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, missing the showpiece event for the second time in a row.

Mancini's contract was due to expire in 2026
