Tokyo stocks close down 1.06 pct

TOKYO, Jan. 7 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks ended lower on Wednesday, with the benchmark Nikkei stock index, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average, closing down 556.10 points, or 1.06 percent, from Tuesday at 51,961.98.

The broader Topix index, meanwhile, finished 27.10 points, or 0.77 percent, lower at 3,511.34.
