247 - President Lula (PT) stated on Tuesday (18) that the advancement of the climate agenda and energy transition represents an "extraordinary" and historical opportunity for Brazil to promote its "true independence, from an economic, cultural, social, and geopolitical standpoint.""Brazil, which was already important, now, with the world going through the energy transition, is becoming even more important because everyone is keeping an eye on the Amazon," explained the president during the sixth edition of the "Conversa com o Presidente" podcast. "We don't want to turn the Amazon into a sanctuary for humanity. The Amazon is a territory over which Brazil has sovereign power, but what we want to share is the scientific exploration of its wealth and biodiversity, to find out if we can extract pharmaceutical products, cosmetic ingredients, but above all, to research how to improve the lives of the people living in the jungle. How can we improve the lives of indigenous people, fishermen, riverside dwellers, extractivists, and the entire society of the Amazon and South America? We need to think about taking care of the forest, but we also have to think about taking care of the people because it's the people who build our nation.""Brazil has an exceptional opportunity. Never before in the history of Brazil have I seen the country with the chance it now has to gain allies, conquer space, attract investments, especially in this matter of energy transition: wind energy, solar energy, biomass, ethanol, biodiesel, and now with green hydrogen. Brazil's opportunity is extraordinary, and we cannot let this chance slip away. I believe that the 21st century will definitely be the century of Brazil's true independence, from an economic, cultural, social, and geopolitical standpoint," he said.
