247 - Even with President Lula expressing caution regarding the achievement of the "goal" of a zero fiscal deficit for 2024, the Monetary Policy Committee (Copom) reaffirms the importance of meeting the already "established" objectives.The statement from the meeting that decided on a 0.5 percentage point cut in the basic interest rate states: “Considering the importance of meeting the already established fiscal targets for anchoring inflation expectations and, consequently, for conducting monetary policy, the Committee reiterates the importance of firmly pursuing these targets.”However, last Friday (27), Lula stated that it will be difficult for the federal government to achieve the zero deficit target by 2024.
