Report: Goal-machine ready to reject Liverpool move to join Premier League rivals
Liverpool remain firmly interested in signing a new striker this summer, particularly after the departure of Darwin Nunez to Al Hilal.
The Reds have shown ambition this summer and strengthened their squad in several positions, making the signings of Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez.
With less than a week remaining in the Premier League season to kick off, the champions are still looking for new players in the market and a striker is their priority.
While their top target remains Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak, they are reportedly also working on alternatives just in case they fail to land the Sweden international attacker.
Brentford’s Yoane Wissa has been linked with a move to Anfield this summer as Arne Slot eyes more attacking additions. The attacker scored 20 goals for Brentford last season.
Yoane Wissa favours Newcastle United over Liverpool
However, the latest update has completely changed the situation and ended Liverpool’s hopes of signing the attacker.
Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie has claimed that Wissa is keen on a move to Newcastle United this summer and he is currently not thinking about moving to Anfield.
Downie said on his YouTube channel: “(Wissa had) verbally agreed personal terms, they’re not gonna be an issue.
“He’s desperate to come here. I was actually told by one source today that Liverpool have shown a little bit of late interest.
“Imagine Wissa going to Liverpool after all this. That is not the case; he is not going to go there, I am told only Newcastle for Yoane Wissa.
“Newcastle, he’s decided that is his destination, he’s desperate to come here, play at St James’ Park and play Champions League football next season.”
Newcastle United are desperate for a new attacker
While Wissa has made up his mind to play for the Magpies, it might not be the worst news for Liverpool and Slot.
Even though they could lose Wissa to Newcastle, that might soften Newcastle’s stance over selling Isak this summer.
It remains to be seen what the future holds for Wissa, as well as Isak. The Magpies have had a frustrating transfer window which has seen them lose players like Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko to Manchester United.
They are determined to change their fortunes in the upcoming weeks as far as signings are concerned.
