Sources: Liverpool involved in talks to sell ‘exceptional’ star in a late move this summer
RB Leipzig have stepped up their push to sign Liverpool’s highly rated midfielder Harvey Elliott, offering the 22-year-old a four-year contract as they begin formal negotiations with the Merseyside club.
Sources close to the agent industry have informed CaughtOffside that Elliott is keen to secure regular first-team football and is open to leaving Anfield this summer to take the next step in his career.
Leipzig view Elliott as the ideal replacement for Xavi Simons, who is on the verge of sealing a €70 million move to Chelsea.
Elliott, who made just 18 Premier League appearances for the Premier League winners last season, is open to a move away from the club to get more playing time.
RB Leipzig open talks with Liverpool over Harvey Elliott
Leipzig manager Ole Werner and sporting director Marcel Schafer have already held direct talks with the player, outlining their vision for him to become a central figure in the team’s attack-minded system.
Interesting, former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, now Red Bull’s global football director, has also been involved in persuading Elliott to make the switch to Germany.
Discussions over a transfer fee remain ongoing. Liverpool are reportedly seeking €55 million with a buy-back clause or €65 million without one, a figure that far exceeds Elliott’s estimated €30 million market value.
The final price could depend on Leipzig’s windfall from the Simons sale, with some sources mentioning a possible €47 million compromise.
Elliott’s performances last season, often as a creative spark from midfield or the right flank, have also caught the attention of several Premier League clubs.
Premier League clubs have also shown interest in Elliott
Tottenham are prepared to match Liverpool’s £40 million valuation, including a buy-back clause, and Elliott sees them as a strong platform to enhance his prospects of making England’s squad for the 2026 World Cup.
Aston Villa are also monitoring the situation, preparing a €35 million offer.
Despite several offers, Leipzig remain ahead of other clubs in the race to sign the Liverpool star and Klopp’s influence may play a crucial role in the player’s decision making.
Former Liverpool boss Klopp called Elliott an ‘exceptional’ talent in the past.
