Secretary of State John Kerry declared his support for a 48-hour ceasefire proposed by Egyptian officials. Hamas had previously rejected the proposal, claiming they wouldn't stop firing until Egypt opened its border with Gaza, allowing food and medical aid to reach Palestinian citizens.
