The health ministry on Monday announced two new cases of the coronavirus, both individuals who had travelled from abroad, bringing the total to 996.
One of the cases was found after 766 samples from passengers and repatriated individuals. The person who tested positive had travelled from Serbia through Bulgaria and was tested upon arrival.
The second case was tracked through a hospital lab test. The individual had arrived from the USA nine days ago (a category C country) through a category A country.
The person was tested at the airport and was negative. After developing symptoms, they underwent a second test at the Limassol general hospital which was positive.
A total of 1,290 tests were carried out, the health ministry said.
These included the 766 of travellers and 215 tests at general hospital laboratories, which yielded the positive results.
There were an additional 125 tests carried out through private initiative and six tests through contact tracing. A further 178 tests were done on vulnerable groups.
The last patient at the Famagusta reference hospital was discharged on Monday and a new patient was admitted.
