"These guys sure must hate birds" says commenter
In this week's comments update, readers are discussing a collection of reflective cabins designed by prefabricated housing company ÖÖD for a remote hotel on Oregon's Rogue River.
Twelve prefabricated cabins, designed with three mirrored sides to reflect the surrounding greenery, were added across the Tu Tu' Tun Lodge property.
"Enough with the mirrored buildings already"
Commenters were concerned about the impact on local wildlife.
"While staying in one of those cabins would be wonderful, with nature on three sides, I hate to think what the mirrored surfaces will do to the birds," cautioned Jess.
Even less forgiving in their assessment was RK, who suggested "these guys must sure hate birds."
JZ was similarly incensed, declaring "enough with the mirrored buildings already."
For Lasztóczi Péter, "the exceeding use of mirroring surfaces is a sign of a lack of ideas about how to fit a building into the environment."
However, Camelmammal disagreed, saying "Why does everyone cry about birds? I assume nobody here eats meat?"

"Not calling it 'lab-grown' would be a start"
Dezeen readers were also reacting to a story about the rise of lab-grown meat and what it would take to change consumer habits.
"Not calling it 'lab-grown' would be a start," proposed FHolly, who thought it "sounds like some weird experiment".
Dixie Normous also wasn't sold, arguing that "it's extremely unhealthy and full of ultra-processed foodstuffs".
Meanwhile, Sylvia Sánchez felt "this is not a solution because it doesn't attack the real problem". Instead, they proposed that people should "buy fresh and locally, following the seasons as we did just 20 years ago".
However, other commenters could imagine lab-grown meat gaining traction. Henri thought that "if major brands and retail chains can switch over to it, it will be consumed at the same rate that conventional meat is". He put forward "it's essentially meat and tastes like meat – customers won't care!"

"The White House has become the backdrop to tawdry spectacle"
Also stoking debate in the comments section this week was the news that UFC president Dana White has released renderings of a mixed martial arts arena set to be built on the South Lawn of the White House for the America 250 celebrations in 2026.
"I thought we had reached rock bottom, but this is below grade," lamented Deb Papadopoulos.
The Discreet Architect felt that "the White House has become the backdrop to tawdry spectacle", adding "you get exactly what you vote for".
"Why not tear the White House down altogether for some sort of Hunger Games stadium?" asked Bunkermentality.
