Calma lounge chair by Layer for Andreu World

Dezeen Showroom: this cocooning lounge chair was created by British industrial designer Benjamin Hubert and his studio Layer for Spanish furniture brand Andreu World.

Designed for both the home and corporate settings, the Calma lounge chair has an embracing shape with soft padding to envelop the sitter.

Unlike classic chairs with a similar shape, however, it is made without the use of glue, so that the upholstery can be removed for mending or replacement. This also allows the entire chair to be disassembled and recycled at the end of its life.

An innovative approach is also taken with the reclining mechanism, which can lock the chair in any position. Instead of the usual bulky knobs or levers, the Calma chair uses a discreet leather tab within the seat.

The Calma lounge chair is available in either low-back or high-back models, and there is the option to wrap the backrest exterior in walnut plywood.

Andreu World recommends the chair for waiting areas, lobbies and lounges – anywhere a quiet corner is required.
