Amora designs discreet and portable menstrual cup rinsing case

0

Menstrual care brand Amora has designed a discreet, portable case named Halo that lets menstrual cup users rinse their cups easily at home or in public.

Halo is the first product created by Amora, a menstrual care brand founded by UK-based industrial designer Jaime van Rooyen. The patent-pending prototype is planned for launch in the near future.

The portable rinsing pod features a compact, grip-friendly and soft-to-touch case that can be used with one hand.

The case features a rounded shape, a soft, matte finish, and a textured grip to ensure it doesn't slip out of users' hands when wet.

"The interface is clean and can be used with one hand," Amora founder Jaime van Rooyen told Dezeen.

"No loose parts to juggle, no 'where do I put this lid' moments. That alone removes a lot of awkwardness people associate with public rinsing."

To clean their menstrual cup, users simply insert the cup into the case, fill it up with water, shake it and empty it into the sink.

Unlike other menstrual cup cleaners available that use a screw-to-close system, Halo uses a sealed shake that limits splash, keeps the process contained and allows users to clean their cup with one hand

"A centred, slightly elevated cup position keeps the rinse controlled and quick, which feels cleaner and reduces sink-side faff," explained Van Rooyen.

Inside, the case features stabilising architecture that helps to centre the cup during agitation, designed to counter buoyancy and improve rinse effectiveness.

"The architecture is designed to keep the cup stable and encourage effective agitation, so you need fewer, shorter shakes to get a clean result," said Van Rooyen.

"That combination of fast, contained motion and a tactile, grip-friendly exterior makes the whole routine feel cleaner and more controlled."

The device features rounded edges that prevent grime build-up, easy-to-clean surfaces and a compact form that fits into small bags.

"In tight, shared bathrooms, you do not have spare surfaces or spare hands," she said.

"A compact, sealed object that opens and closes with one hand, with no loose parts to park on a sink or thigh, means fewer risky touches and a faster, cleaner routine."

Other period-related projects published on Dezeen include a smart menstrual cup that tracks periods automatically by tech start-up Emm and a wearable device designed to help alleviate period pain by British doctor Adam Hamdi.
