Lego and Crocs launch multi-year partnership with shoes shaped like giant bricks

0

Toymaker Lego has lent the shape of its iconic bricks to a pair of oversized, rectangular shoes as part of a new ongoing collaboration with footwear brand Crocs.

The bright-red Lego Brick Clog is made to scale proportions of the company's two-by-four bricks, completed with four branded studs on the upper.

An angular version of Crocs's standard heel straps secures the backless clog in place, although the shoemaker is quick to point out that the clown-scale collectible design is "not intended for all-day wear".

The shoes mark the first launch as part of a multi-year partnership between the two brands, which will include several toy and wearable launches for both adults and children.

Also set to be released this year as part of the collaboration is a collection of Lego-branded Jibbitz charms, which can be used to customise Crocs's standard clogs.

"We are both brands that pride ourselves in being built different, in celebrating self-expression and in fueling creativity," said Crocs' chief marketing officer Carly Gomez.

"I can't wait for our fans to see what we're creating together – we've truly broken the mold in a way that we never have before."

The Lego Brick Clog is injection-moulded from the same rubbery plastic foam as Crocs' other clogs – a kind of polyethylene vinyl acetate (PEVA) – with a sole designed to resemble the underside of a Lego brick.

Each pair of the collectible shoes also comes with a Lego minifigure with four pairs of its own miniature Crocs.

The launch has divided opinions online, not least because of the product's £199.99 price tag.

It follows Crocs's controversial collaboration with MSCHF in 2023, which saw the brand release a thigh-high yellow version of the art collective's viral Astroboy boots.
