[Women's Indoor Track & Field] Happy Holidays Pentathlon Starts Indoor Season
The Doane Women's Track and Field season started up on Sunday with the annual Happy Holidays Pentathlon meet between the Tigers, Central Missouri, and Central (Iowa). The Tigers had three competitors in the meet.
The event started with the 60-meter hurdles with Josie Garrett running the third-fastest time overall, 9.28 seconds. Rylee Rice (JR/Ainsworth, Neb.) crossed the finish line in 10.17 and Karlee Henning finished in 12.06 seconds. The ladies moved to the high jump next where Garrett tied for the second-best mark at 1.63m (5-04.25). Rice cleared 1.42m (4-07.75) and Henning finished with a clearance of 1.21m (3-11.50).
Rice posted the third-best mark in the shot put with a throw of 9.65m (31-08.00). Henning came through with a mark of 8.84m (29-00.00) and Garrett finished with a top throw of 8.16m (26-09.25). Moving to the long jump, Garrett posted a leap of 4.96m (16-03.25), the third-best mark on the day. Rice had a jump of 4.60m (15-01.25) and Henning cleared a mark of 4.53m (14-10.50).
The final event of the day was the 800m run. Rice crossed the line third overall with a time of 2:39.28. Henning finished in a time of 3:02.72 and Garrett crossed in 3:19.10.
For the day, Garrett finished fourth overall with 2,789 points. Rice was fifth with 2,757 points and Henning took seventh with 1,926 points.
Next up for the Tigers will be the Concordia Early Bird Meet where the majority of the Doane indoor track and field team will see their first action of the season.
