[Men's Indoor Track & Field] Turner Sets Pace for Men's Track and Field at Early Bird Meet
Doane Men's Track and Field hit the road to Seward on Saturday to compete in the Concordia Early Bird Meet. The Tigers walked away with four event wins, four national qualifying marks, and one meet record.
In the 60-meter dash, JaDae Moore (SO/Omaha, Neb.) ran two sub-7 second races as he placed third overall in the finals. He ran a time of 6.99 in the prelims and 6.96 in the finals. Zach Turner (JR/Crete, Neb.) collected a win for the Tigers in the 200 with a time of 22.42. In the 400, Ivan Varela (JR/Long Island, Kan.) posted the top Tiger time with a mark of 51.27 to place fourth.
Jordan Tasler (SR/Atkinson, Neb.) added a fourth place finish in the 600-meter run with a time of 1:23.33, a personal best time. In the 800, Will Wenz (SO/Crete, Neb.) had the top Doane time as he was clocked at 2:03.18, a personal best, to place second. Ryan Evans (JR/Waverly, Neb.) recorded Doane's fastest time in the 1000 with a time of 2:43.41 to place fourth. Thomas Oliver (JR/Lincoln, Neb.) finished with a runner-up finish in the 3000-meter run as he ran a time of 9:02.39, a personal best.
Turner picked up another win by taking the 60-meter hurdles with a personal best time of 8.03, second-fastest in school history. He also broke the meet record while hitting an NAIA automatic qualifying mark. Turner also anchored Doane's winning 4x400 relay team. He was joined by Tasler, Varela, and Caleb Mulder (FR/Columbus, Neb.) as they ran a collective 3:26.15.
In the field events, Carter Reckling (JR/Crete, Neb.) posted a third place finish as he cleared 1.91m (6-03.25) in the high jump. Jack Krejci (SR/Louisville, Neb.) had the top mark in the long jump for Doane as he leaped 6.33m (20-09.25) to place ninth. Vince Lauenroth (SR/Crete, Neb.) won the triple jump with a mark of 13.96m (45-09.75).
In the weight throw, the Tigers had three athletes hit NAIA automatic qualifying marks as they finished second, third, and fourth in the event. Luke Partridge (JR/Wahoo, Neb.) posted a throw of 18.11m (59-05.00), Trey Dickey (SO/Beaver Crossing, Neb.) cleared 17.47m (57-03.75), and Jaedon Lothrop (JR/Crete, Neb.) hit a mark of 17.10m (56-01.25). In the shot put, Dickey had the top throw for Doane with a mark of 14.03m (46-00.50) to place seventh.
The Tigers will return to action after the new year when they host the Ward Haylett Invite on January 7, 2023.
