The Bulgarian government decided Tuesday to keep Unesco head Irina Bokova as Bulgaria's single candidate for UN secretary general. Recent rumours, fuelled by some EU officials, had it that EU budget commissioner Kristalina Georgieva would be chosen as a replacement for Bokova or as a second Bulgarian candidate. The next UN chief, to be named by the end of the year, should be a European, according to informal UN rules.
