The New England Patriots parted ways with safety Jordan Richards on Friday, sending the 2015 second-round pick to the Atlanta Falcons in exchange for a conditional seventh-round pick in 2020. But as far as lightning rods of criticism go, Richards wasn't supposed to be one in the first place.
