California's Assembly Bill 5 or AB-5 creates new challenges for the franchise industry. AB-5 expands on the California Supreme Court’s 2018 decision in Dynamex which adopted the employee-favored "ABC" test. AB-5 may allow franchisees to assert that they are an employee of their franchisor.
