[Softball] Softball Falcons earn second seed in upcoming KCAC Tournament
WICHITA, Kan. – The Friends University Falcons, the defending KCAC postseason tournament champions, will enter next week's 2023 postseason softball tourney as the second seed with a 32-10 overall record and a 20-4 conference record.
The Falcons will carry a lot of momentum into next week's competition as they look to defend their crown, winning 16 of their past 18 conference games.
"I think the girls are locked in and ready to compete," said Friends softball head coach Suzanne Unruh. "We will take it one game at a time! I love that our conference is getting stronger and stronger each year, every team will be tough. We're excited to get up there and get started!"
Last season's journey to the postseason saw a similar path, with the Falcons winners of 12 of their last 15 regular season games prior to heading to Great Bend.
Leading the Falcons' charge this season is some of the KCAC's best, highlighted by the hitter/pitching duo of Carolyn Dallimore (SR/Patterson, Calif. ) and Laila Spracklen (SR/San Diego, Calif. ).
Dallimore is pacing the entire league in batting average (.469) and is second in home runs (13) and fourth in RBIs (52), while Spracklen is tied for second in the conference in wins (17) and ranks second in strikeouts (200) and third in ERA (2.04).
A true two-way contributor, Spracklen is fourth in the KCAC in batting average (.418) and right behind Dallimore in fifth with 46 runs driven in.
The postseason run officially kicks off Wednesday (May 3) for the Falcons, with a noon start against seventh-seeded McPherson College in Great Bend, Kan. A victory would push the Falcons into a matchup later that evening at 5 pm against the winner of third-seeded Oklahoma Wesleyan University and the sixth-seeded Kansas Wesleyan University Coyotes.
