The Briefing Room: Taiwan and the Threat to Peace
GMF Asia Director Bonnie Glaser joined BBC Radio’s “The Briefing Room” along with other experts to discuss Taiwan, its history, China’s policies toward it, and U.S. policy. Speaking to the formal relationship between the United States and Taiwan, Glaser stated that it is “complicated,” with Congress having decided that Taiwan “shall be treated as a non-NATO ally without the formal designation as such.” She continued to explain U.S. policy toward Taiwan, the possibility of the United States coming to Taiwan’s defense if it were attacked, the Taiwan Relations Acts (TRA), and the position of Japan.
