Udonis Haslem says Heat almost traded for Allen Iverson

HoopsHype: Atlanta Hawks

Udonis Haslem revealed that he was almost traded for Allen Iverson so Miami could pair him with Dwyane Wade: “I remember my name was in the hat one time. We was talking about making a move for Iverson and my name got thrown in the hat a little bit. I was all shook up and (expletive), but D-Wade was like ‘Man, that’s Allen Iverson’.”

LeBron James: I'm so f***** mad I'm not Kyrie Irving's running mate anymore

HoopsHype: Atlanta Hawks

With Kyrie Irving set to play in his first NBA Finals since 2017 when the Boston Celtics host the Dallas Mavericks in Thursday’s Game 1 (8:30 p.m. ET, ABC), his former teammate LeBron James admitted just how much he misses playing with the eight-time All-Star. “I’m so f—ing happy and so proud to watch him continue his growth,” James told his co-host, JJ Redick, on an episode of their “Mind the Game” podcast released Tuesday. “I’m so f—ing mad at the same time that I’m not his running mate anymore.”

LeBron James on Kyrie Irving: He's the most gifted player the NBA has ever seen

HoopsHype: Atlanta Hawks

James said Irving’s performance in Game 1 of the Western Conference finals, when the 13-year veteran scored 24 of his 30 points in the first half to jump on the Minnesota Timberwolves, made him reconsider Dallas’ chances this postseason. “That was like, ‘Oh s—, Dallas may be able to not only win the Western Conference finals, they might be able to win the whole thing,'” James said. “Because of that [Irving] wild card. … He’s the most gifted player the NBA has ever seen.”

DeMar DeRozan seeks long-term security in talks with Bulls

HoopsHype: Atlanta Hawks

The Bulls would be happy to re-sign DeMar DeRozan on a two-year deal. DeRozan’s side obviously would covet more security. The Bulls have a habit of liberally latching player options into contracts so that carrot could come into play with DeRozan’s deal as well. The dollar amount will be hefty, likely north of $40 million annually, but is less significant to the Bulls’ long-term flexibility. Chicago wants to keep DeRozan but at a reasonable commitment.

Karl-Anthony Towns more at risk if Lore/Rodriguez take control of Wolves?

HoopsHype: Atlanta Hawks

The NBA’s media rights deals will nearly triple beginning with the 25-26 season, while expansion will also give existing owners an influx of money in the coming years. “I do not think they would tear the team apart, however, I do think there’s a possibility if the ownership change took place that Karl Towns’ role would be reevaluated,” said Windhorst.

Vince Carter on departure from Toronto: 'I just feel like I handled everything the correct way'

HoopsHype: Atlanta Hawks

Carter became a villain in Toronto. He joked about the booing he was subjected to every time he returned to the city in the years following his trade to New Jersey. It was relentless and loud, he said on a recent podcast with Taylor Rooks. “I just feel like I handled everything the correct way,” Carter said. “I had conversations with people, and I made a decision that we’re seeing now to the 20th power.”
