Comeback, Cardiac Cowboys Pull Off 20-18 Win in the Little Apple
OSU looked to bounce back against Kansas State but would have to without Tylan Wallace, LD Brown, and Kolby Harvell-Pell, all of which were nursing injuries.
The Cowboys opened with the ball and avoided disaster as he got hit as he was throwing which fortunately for the Cowboys was recovered by Josh Sills. OSU punted it to K-State.
The Cowboys would get it back, but disaster struck. An already depleted offensive line saw Teven Jenkins get carted off. OSU would later have to punt it back to the Wildcats.
Deuce Vaughn broke off a 10 yard run and Malik Knowles hauled in an 18 yard pass to help Blake Lynch bang home a 30 yard field goal and Kansas State had a 3-0 lead in the first.
Spencer Sanders looked a little off on a throw on third and short right before the end of the first quarter. It was incomplete and led to an OSU punt.
Kansas State then went on a massive 80 yard drive which included two passes in the flats to Jax Dineen, the fullback. It led to a 29 yard field goal for Blake Lynch. Despite OSU's struggles, they trailed just 6-0 in the second.
OSU couldn't get anything working on their next drive and Kansas State got it back. The Wildcats and Will Howard broke off 69 yard run deep into OSU territory. The drive ended with Howard connecting with Phillip Brooks on a 5 yard touchdown pass. The Wildcats would go for two and miss. OSU trailed 12-0 at the half.
K-State got the ball to start the third and OSU got a tackle for loss from Tyler Lacy. OSU got a little going offensively. Chuba Hubbard broke off a 12 yard run, but would leave with a lower body injury on the drive. It led to a 35 yard Alex Hale field goal and OSU cut into KSU's lead 12-3.
OSU would force another defensive stop, and LD Brown broke off a 56 yard run inside the five. It didn't take long for OSU to finish the drive. Bixby's true freshman Brennan Pressley took a jet sweep 11 yards for the touchdown. OSU back in it trailing 12-10.
The OSU defense notched another impressive series forcing a KSU punt. The Cowboys didn't mess around. LD Brown busted off a 23 yard run en route to a 33 yard field goal by Alex Hale. OSU took a 13-12 lead.
OSU would force another stop, LD Brown would get a great third down run, but leave with an injury during that. OSU would get to a fourth and one, but punt it back to K-State. On the first play Will Howard connected with Sammy Wheeler for a 58 yard gain to get deep in OSU territory. But the OSU defense came up massive. Isarael Antwine stripped Will Howard and the ball bounced right to Jason Taylor II who returned it 85 yards for the touchdown. OSU up 20-12 with under seven to play.
Following that, Kansas State was methodical driving down the field and it ended with Will Howard scoring a two yard touchdown. That made it 20-18, so K-State needed to go for two. Will Howard dropped back but Brock Martin knocked the ball loose and the two point conversion was no good. OSU on top 20-18.
The onside kick went out of bounds and OSU ran it three straight times. Kansas State used all three timeouts to stop the clock and get it back with 1:57 to play. However, on the first play of the drive Will Howard's pass sailed high and Tre Sterling picked his pass off to seal an OSU win 20-18.
Spencer Sanders didn't turn it over a single time, was 14-23, 108 yards, no touchdowns. He also had 12 carries for nine yards. LD Brown had 15 carries for 110 yards. Chuba Hubbard had six for 31. Dillon Stoner led the Cowboys in receiving with seven grabs for 62 yards.
