Peek behind the curtain of Wicked

OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) -- Wicked is one of Broadway's most "Popular" shows.
Just like the song, it's "One Short Day" until the show opens here in Oklahoma City.
It's been 10 years since Wicked was in Oklahoma. While it's the same show, they say new talent breathes new life into the story.
"It's about life long friendship and connection and family," said Evan Ensign, Production Stage Manager for Wicked.
The Wicked crew is turning the stage at the Oklahoma City Civic Center into the land of Oz.
Buzz around town is coming fresh off the ruby red heels of the wicked movie trailer.
"It is the untold story, the true story, of the Witches of Oz," said Engisn.
Green lights are already glowing in the lobby, while inside the house crews work sun up to sun down to bring in famous pieces, like the Time Dragon.
"The dragon at certain points will come to life," said Ensign.
As well as Galinda's popular bubble.
"Our first day in the building, everything gets scattered around and orchestra rehearsals begin today," said Ensign.
Until then, the only sounds in the theater are coming from the crews.
News 4 was there while they worked to hang up to 100,000 pounds of equipment.
"The air show goes up first, then the floor will go in," said Ensign. "By the time we leave at the end of the day most of the show ill be set up."
"Those are hanging pieces that will - and this is on the floor where they'll land," said Ensign.
After everything's up in the air, they control what goes up and down by the pulling dozens of ropes.
Then crews will put their floors in, equipped with lights, fans, and surprises.
"Tomorrow morning our wardrobe people will come in and open up all the costumes and get everything into the right rooms," said Ensign.
After sound check and some rehearsal, it's time to break a leg and defy gravity.
"I think it's interesting, something as old as wicked is, is still as current as wicked is," said Ensign.
